Podcasts are not just fantastic tools to kill our boredom but they are also wonderful for gaining the knowledge necessary to be able to start your own company.

I’ll go through some of my favourite podcasts and ones that have given me the most knowledge and enjoyment at the same time.

Masters of Scale

Reid Hoffman has had extreme levels of success in both the startup world and the venture capital world, and now he ventures into podcasting.

He founded LinkedIn and is now directing Greylock Capital, which is one of the largest venture firms out there investing in the likes of Airbnb.

What’s It About

Reid talks to successful persons about how they got started but most importantly about how they faired in a specific skill set.

For example, he will talk to the guest about a subject such as how they deal with hiring and get their insights on that specific subject.

Favourite Episode

Episode 87: President Barack Obama: When the Moment Chooses You

How I Built This

Guy Raz has become rather famous for this podcast as he came from humble journalism beginnings and built this podcast into a juggernaut.

Guy asks hard questions and makes sure to keep his personal biases out of his work which makes for a very pleasant listen.

What’s It About

Guy talks with any business he quote, “thinks has an incredible story”. Not all of these businesses are massive but you will always get something interesting from it.

There is rarely a boring episode and each one covers a wildly different industry, from chair making to Fortune 500.

Favourite Episode

Episode 231: reCAPTCHA and Duolingo

The Jordan Harbinger Show

This also happens to be one of my favourite podcasts of any kind, it covers so many in depth subjects and truly creates a great environment to learn.

This one is fantastic for people of all types and is not exclusive to business, though it does look at subjects from a business lense.

What It’s About

Each episode covers a different knowledge building subject with a different guest.

For example, Jordan talks to Dwayne Wayde about his personal success and parenting in one episode and Ray Dalio on nation building in a different episode.

It may not always be about business but the lessons learned from each person directly translate to business skills and simply cannot be ignored.

Favourite Episode

Episode 584: Anderson Cooper | The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty

Acquired

This one actually is my favourite podcast of all time. Ben and David do a fantastic job not just diving deep into the analytics of companies, but they are also one of the few podcasts that dive deep into the history of the company they are discussing.

They are extremely knowledgeable hosts and are clearly intelligent in every way. Give them a listen as they put a ton of work into each long form podcast they do; It’s worth it!

What It’s About

I talked about it in the summary but they discuss the history mostly but also the analysis of the future of major companies in Tech and beyond.

The podcasts can be 3 hours but honestly those are the best ones and they frankly never have a boring episode.

The analysis is incredible but the deep dive on the company histories is fascinating and frankly the most inspiring thing for young entrepreneurs.

Favourite Episode

2019 Episode 8: Airbnb
